514 Kiteschool in North Devon is run by passionate kiteboarders Robin Snuggs and Sukie Robertson.
They have been running a kids club for a few years now and have taken kids from flying powerkites right up to National Level Freestyle competitions.
Sunday 5th Nov saw the Advanced Kite Club have a go at CR:X One design kite racing.
The wind was a NW however blowing pretty hard. Most riders were on 7 – 9m kites.
Sukie Robertson briefed the 6 kids about the equipment and we were ready to go.
They all took 7m kites and Twin Tip boards and were out in no time enjoy the kit and having a warm up.
After 30 minutes a course was set – blowing on shore the buoys were just dragged out into the sizeable surf.
It was a simple across the wind format with upwind hooks around the downwind buoy making riders kite a touch upwind. The racing was fast and furious and two Semis were held with 3 riders in each.
A Final was then held with 4 riders Alex showing everyone the way to do it with a clean start and easy finish clear of his competitors.
After that the kids had another hour enjoying the kit as the tide pushed in.
All the kids had a great afternoon and a prize giving was had on the beach @ 4pm
Big thanks to 514 Elemental School, Robin Snuggs, Sukie Robertson and Kevin Mathey – also to all the parents who were on hand to help out.
